The Different Types of Dentures
Complete Dentures
Traditional complete dentures are a full set of removable prosthetic teeth that rest on the gums and may be stabilized with the use of dental adhesives. Traditional dentures are made from durable acrylic, but will need to be relined periodically to improve or maintain their fit due to changes in the jaw that follow tooth loss.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are typically attached to adjacent teeth with the use of dental clasps. Like traditional complete dentures, traditional partial dentures are removable, and occasional relines may be necessary. Partial dentures can replace consecutive missing teeth, or isolated areas of tooth loss throughout the dental arch.
Implant-Supported Dentures

Caring for Your New Denture
To help your new dentures last as long as possible, our dentist recommends that you:
Traditional dentures should be brushed daily, rinsed after meals, and taken out every night to be soaked in a denture cleanser. This will help maintain the condition of your dentures and the health of your gums. Implant-supported dentures aren't removable, but you should brush and floss them regularly, just as you would natural teeth.
Denture patients should attend all follow-up appointments and yearly checkups so we can make sure your denture is in good condition and you aren't having any oral health complications. Brian Hirschfield, DDS, will also let you know when it's time to replace your denture.
Though traditional dentures can restore a certain degree of function, we recommend that you remain mindful when eating and speaking to minimize the chances of your dentures coming loose. Patients with implant-supported dentures don't have to worry about their dentures coming loose, but they should still treat their dentures with care.
