Dentures

Missing teeth make everyday tasks like eating, speaking, and smiling more difficult.

Dentures allow patients who are missing multiple teeth or an entire dental arch to restore the appearance and function of a healthy smile.

Dr. Brian Hirschfield at Lakeview Dental in Lakeville, NY, offers dentures that can fit your needs and lifestyle, with a 5-year guarantee.

The Different Types of Dentures

Denture

Complete Dentures

Traditional complete dentures are a full set of removable prosthetic teeth that rest on the gums and may be stabilized with the use of dental adhesives. Traditional dentures are made from durable acrylic, but will need to be relined periodically to improve or maintain their fit due to changes in the jaw that follow tooth loss.

Partial denture

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are typically attached to adjacent teeth with the use of dental clasps. Like traditional complete dentures, traditional partial dentures are removable, and occasional relines may be necessary. Partial dentures can replace consecutive missing teeth, or isolated areas of tooth loss throughout the dental arch.

Denture implants

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dr. Hirschfield can surgically place dental implants into your upper or lower jawbone to secure a full or partial zirconia denture in place. Though dental implants and implant-supported dentures cost more than traditional options, they are a more secure, longer-lasting solution. Additionally, they don't require messy adhesives or uncomfortable dental clasps, and relining is needed much less frequently because implants help the jaw retain its shape.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Hirschfield will help determine which option is right for you.

My experience was great. I had a complex issue that needed to be addressed. Dr. Hirschfield did an unusually comprehensive analysis of my problem. He then presented multiple options for treatment. The pros and cons of each were addressed. There was absolutely no upselling. I believe he put my welfare above his profits.

Understanding the Denture Process

Though a fully customized treatment plan will be developed to suit your specific needs, you can expect to undergo these general steps during your treatment:

"Our Lakeville, NY, staff uses a friendly and gentle approach in order to make your visit a pleasant, stress-free experience."

Initial Examination

Dr. Hirschfield will take X-rays and perform an oral examination to determine the health of your gums and any remaining teeth.

Preparatory Treatment

If any teeth need to be extracted before your denture is fabricated, we will perform this procedure in our office. We can also treat gum disease to ensure a healthy foundation for this dentistry solution. If you're receiving an implant-supported denture, Dr. Hirschfield will place your implants (and you can expect to need about three to six months for the jaw to heal before you can receive your permanent denture).

Impressions

Dental impressions will be made of your upper and lower arches. These impressions will guide the fabrication of a wax model, a necessary step to ensure the restoration fits properly in your mouth.

Wax Model

Once your wax model has been created, your bite, appearance, and ability to speak clearly will be evaluated. If adjustments are necessary, you may need to see your dentist for an additional follow-up appointment.

Denture Fabrication

A local lab will create your final denture out of durable, realistic-looking materials and send it to us in about two weeks.

Receiving Your Denture

When we receive your final denture from the lab, you can return to our office in Lakeville where we will make any necessary adjustments. Once the fit is comfortable, you can return to your day with a brand-new smile and restored function.

We Perform Denture Repair

Our Lakeville, NY, office is equipped to repair dentures when the prosthetic teeth or base of the dentures becomes broken or chipped. In many cases, we can repair dentures and return them to patients on the same day.
