What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Veneers are tooth-shaped shells of porcelain that are placed on the front-facing teeth. They can be used on up to eight teeth on the upper or lower arches to mask cosmetic flaws. We can place a single veneer or a set of veneers to address your unique dental needs.

Dr Hirshfield and the team at Lakeview dental are great. They fit me right in the next day for a cracked cap and took care of it.

The Porcelain Veneers Treatment Process

Veneers are a quick and effective smile makeover option.
Veneers are a quick and effective smile makeover option.

Consultation

The first step of the process is to schedule a consultation so Dr. Hirschfield can determine if you are a good candidate and answer any questions you have about treatment.

Tooth Preparation

Dr. Hirschfield uses a matrix form technique to ensure minimal reduction during veneer preparation. He can remove as little as 0.6mm from each tooth.

Impressions

Once the teeth have been prepared, we will take impressions of your teeth so your custom veneers can be fabricated for a precise fit.

Temporary Veneers

We will place temporary prosthetics on your teeth to protect them and improve their appearance while the custom veneers are being crafted.

Design

During your consultation and first treatment appointment, Dr. Hirschfield will listen to your aesthetic concerns. These considerations will be incorporated into your design specifications, as will other considerations such as the shape of your face, teeth, and other features.

Fabrication

It takes one to two weeks for our trusted lab to fabricate your veneers from a solid block of high-quality porcelain.

Final Placement

Once we have received your custom veneers, you will return to our Lakeville practice to have them placed. We will check the fit and appearance before bonding them into place with durable dental cement.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

With proper care, porcelain veneers can last for 15 years or more. To prevent premature wear or breakage, follow these simple instructions:

Brush

Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Toothpaste

Use sensitive or gel formula toothpaste; avoid whitening or abrasive toothpastes that can scratch the surface of your veneers over time.

Floss

Floss your teeth at least once daily.

Exams

Attend dental exams and professional cleanings every six months.

Avoid

Avoid bad habits such as using your teeth to open bottles or biting on your fingernails.

Dr. Hirshfield and Nicole went over their findings after a cleaning regarding  a tooth that needed work and ultimately, a crown. The entire procedure was explained to me in terms I could understand, and when I arrived for the prep visit, it was an excellent experience.  No pain, no problems, and the temporary that was placed was comfortable immediately.  Thanks to everyone for a positive dental experience, you rock!

Crowns vs. Porcelain Veneers

The Front Teeth

Patients should have dental crowns placed if the front teeth are not strong and healthy enough to support veneers. For example, if you have large fillings or a significant portion of the tooth has become worn or chipped, crowns may be a better option.

The Back Teeth

Veneers are strictly a cosmetic dentistry treatment, so they are never used on the back teeth. If we need to improve the appearance or health of the pre-molars or molars, the placement of crowns or composite bonding material are more suitable options.
